Simon Hughes was a teacher for 14 years.  For 9 years he was the Head of Department in a Catholic maintained school.  He subsequently led the PGCE in Secondary and Key Stages 2 and 3 Religious Education at Canterbury Christ Church University before diversifying into leading teaching and learning of Subject Leadership and Middle Management.

He was seconded to a CCCU Faculty role in order to lead and manage its efforts in relation to technologised learning and teaching which evolved into considerable expertise in mobile working.  During the period 2004-2007, he was part of the team that established the Teacher Training Resource Bank (www.ttrb.ac.uk), created and built the RE-Net professional community (www.re-net.ac.uk), collaboratively designed, planned, validated and implemented the iteach programme (www.iteach.ac.uk) and led several TDA-funded 'e-learning communities' projects.
